Wrongful Death Lawsuit Filed against Suge Knight, Universal Studios

Producer Marion “Suge” Knight and Universal Studios have been named as defendants in a wrongful death lawsuit filed in an L.A. court two days ago. According to the complaint, the case stems from a fatal car accident that occurred at the end of January 2015, and rappers Dr. Dre and Ice Cube have also been identified as defendants in this case.

As court documents explain, the car accident at the center of this case occurred on January 29th in the parking lot of a fast food restaurant in Southern California. Knight was reportedly meeting with Dr. Dre and Ice Cube to discuss his depiction in the film Straight Outta Compton that was being shot at the time (and that Universal Pictures is distributing). Another man, who was a respected member of the Compton business community, had been brought to the meeting to facilitate the discussion and ease tensions.

During the meeting, however, an argument reportedly erupted between Knight and a member of the film’s security crew known as Bone. According to the complaint, after the argument broke out, Knight got into his vehicle and “carelessly, recklessly, violently and negligently” drove towards Bone; instead, however, Knight hit the other man – the facilitator who had been brought along. The man who was hit reportedly died at the scene of the accident.

This wrongful death suit has been filed by the decedent’s wife, and the requested damages are unknown at this time.

Criminal Case Could Be Important to the Wrongful Death Suit

In addition to facing this wrongful death case, Knight is also facing a criminal case, as he has been charged with murder and attempted murder for his alleged role in this accident. Although Knight has pled not guilty to the criminal charges he is facing, the evidence brought to light in the criminal case could be very useful in the civil wrongful death case being pursued by the decedent’s widow.
