Continuing from Top 10 Most Dangerous Products for Kids (Part 1), the following discusses some additional items that the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has deemed as especially dangerous for children.

  1. Trampolines – While children love jumping and playing on trampolines, these products have a significant risk of causing bone fractures, dislocations and head injuries to children who play on them. The risk of injuries reportedly increases when children are five years old or younger and/or when more than one child is jumping on the trampoline at once.
  2. Small, high-powered magnets – Toys, such as Buckyballs, that are made up of a number of small, high-powered magnets are incredibly dangerous to children because, when kids swallow more than one of these magnets, they can suffer serious intestinal damage (that has been likened to shrapnel puncturing the intestines).Although such toys are intended for adult use, have warning labels on them and have been banned by the CPSC, they still are in circulation, and parents should avoid buying them in order to reduce the risk of injuries to their children.
  3. Baby carriers and slings – The dangers associated with baby slings and carriers lie in the risk of suffocation and/or falling when babies are not properly placed in these slings. The CPSC warns parents who want to use these types of slings and carriers to make sure that babies are placed high on the chest of the adult wearing the sling (i.e., at a distance where the baby can be easily kissed) and that the babies’ airways are not blocked. Additionally, parents should make sure that the slings are properly and firmly secured to their body to reduce the risk that babies may fall out of them.
