A severe truck accident that involved a semi and two passenger vehicles has resulted in the temporary closure of the St. Louis Poplar Bridge, as officials work to clear the wreckage. According to law enforcement officials at the scene, this truck accident occurred at around 5 am this morning on the westbound Interstate 64 at the Interstate 70 junction. One driver reportedly had to be cut out of a vehicle, and three others were reportedly transported to a local hospital for the treatment of non-fatal injuries. No one has reportedly been killed in this collision.

While officials have effectively rerouted traffic through the MLK, Eads and Stan Musial Veterans Memorial bridges, the area is still reportedly very congested, as the investigation is ongoing, and motorists are urged to find alternate routes into St. Louis this morning.

Investigation into Truck Accident Causes is Ongoing, Officials Report

At this time, investigators have not made any statements regarding whether the truck driver and/or the drivers of the other passenger vehicles were likely at fault for causing this serious accident. However, given the location and images of the wreckage – as well as the fact that some type of human error plays a role in more than 90 percent of all traffic accidents – it’s likely that at least one of the drivers will be found to have been at least partially at fault for causing this severe truck accident.

Some of the most common examples of human error that can contribute to truck accidents include (but are not limited to):

  • Truck driver fatigue and/or distraction
  • Truck driver intoxication
  • Truck driver inexperience
  • Other motorists’ negligence, which can include drunk driving, distracted driving and/or fatigued driving
  • Any motorists’ reckless driving, such as the intentional choice to violate traffic laws (by, for example, speeding, running red lights and/or failing to yield the right-of-way).
