Concluding the three-part blog Top 10 Most Dangerous Products for Kids, the following are the remaining items that the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has listed among the most dangerous items for children.

  1. High chairs – The CPSC has issued various warnings over the years about specific brands or makes of high chairs that put children at risk of falling down. While parents are advised to check the CPSC regarding recalled high chairs, they are also encouraged to only purchase high chairs that have five-point harness systems and to always keep an eye on their children when they are in high chairs.
  2. Bassinets – Like some high chairs, certain models of bassinets put children at risk of falling and sustaining serious injuries. Additionally, some bassinets have been reported to increase babies’ risk of suffocating. While many of the dangerous bassinets have been recalled by the CSPC, parents are still strongly encouraged to check with the agency before buying a bassinet to make sure that it hasn’t been recalled or reported to be associated with injuries to children.
  3. Strollers – Some of the problems that have reportedly been associated with defectively designed strollers include pinching children’s fingers, failing to properly lock, collapsing on children and suffocating children. As with other potentially dangerous products for children, parents are strongly urged to check with the CSPC before buying a particularly stroller to check to see if it has been linked to injuries, problems or recalls.

Additionally, tube TVs, which can fall on children when they are not properly secured, and dressers, which can collapse on children when they are climbed on, have also been listed as especially dangerous products for kids. Parents can reduce the risk of their children being injured by tube TVs and dressers by making sure that both are securely fixed to the walls so that they cannot fall on children.
