Proud to Serve: Staff Sergeant Darious Rutling

Proud to Serve, a segment on Fox 2 News in St. Louis, highlights local military veterans and first responders who have given both to our community and to our country. Serving the greater St. Louis area, Brown & Brown is proud to support this recognition of men and women who have made a difference at home and throughout the world.

January’s Proud to Serve recipient is Darious Rutling, a five year veteran in the St. Louis Metro Police Department, Staff Sergeant Rutling’s unit works with children inside of schools, helping to provide support and work to change the perception many of these children have about the police. Growing up, Staff Sergeant Rutling only remembers negative interactions with the police. His intention in creating this unit is to let kids know that police are friends who can be approached and trusted.

Staff Sergeant Rutling is also on active duty in the National Guard. Every month he returns to Arkansas to serve. He recently returned from a seven-month-long Advanced Leaders Course made accessible through his MOS.

In addition to being an officer on the SLMPD, Staff Sergeant Rutling is a mentor for young children who works with community engagement. He is active in the Junior Achievement program, a YMCA Basketball coach, and involved in the cadet program at the SLMPD. Mr. Rutling is also a devoted and attentive husband and father of two.
