Proud to Serve: Army Veteran David Williams

Proud to Serve, a segment on Fox 2 News in St. Louis, highlights local military veterans and first responders who have given both to our community and to our country. Serving the greater St. Louis area, Brown & Brown is proud to support this recognition of men and women who have made a difference at home and throughout the world.

February’s Proud to Serve recipient is David Williams, an Army veteran, teen mentor, and entrepreneur who was inspired to joined the armed forces at the age of 11, following the attacks on the World Trade Center.

Mr. Williams grew up on the Northside of St. Louis where violence and lack of opportunity are prevalent. These experiences informed his interest in mentoring youth. Working with 100 Black Men, Mr. Williams mentors at-risk kids at both the county and city juvenile detention centers three times a week. Coming from the same background as many of these kids allows Mr. Williams to stress how personal choices make the biggest impacts.

In addition to mentoring youth, Mr. Williams owns a business dedicated to employing veterans. Following his discharge in 2017, Mr. Williams struggled to find employment. This struggle led to the creation of Grab and Go Trash, a valet trash service started by that employs and supports veterans when they return home.

Equally important to his community involvement is his commitment to his family. Watch the short video below to learn more.
